  Child’s Lace Tunic

Pattern: Ch in multiples of 5 plus 2 (edge stitches) plus 1 (turning ch)

Size: 2 (3) year old – to increase/decrease size, adjust beginning chains used. I.e. for 2 year old’s sleeve, there are 28 beginning chains: 5 x 5 pattern st + 2 edge st + 1 turning ch; for 3 year old’s sleeve there are 33 beginning chains: 6 x 5 pattern st + 2 edge st + 1 turning ch.

Materials: US 8 /UK 5mm & US 1 /UK 2.25mm hooks; Yarn of choice – Count 2/20mm 60% wool/40% polyester used for this project

Measurements:

2 year old: Front & back both measure 9.5”/24cm width and 14.5”/37cm length (shoulder seam to hemline); Sleeve length is 9”/23cm

3 year old: Front & back both measure 12“/30.5cm width and 14.5“/37cm length (shoulder seam to hemline; Sleeve length is 9.5“/24cm

Gauge: 4sc = 1”/2.5cm

Ch: chain

Sc: single crochet

Dc: double crochet

Prev: previously

Sk: skip / skipped

Ch-sp: chain space

Rep: repeat

Cluster: yo, insert hook in st, pull up loop, yo, pull through 2 loops on hook, yo, insert hook in same st, pull up loop, yo, pull through 2 loops on hook, yo, pull through 3 loops on hook

Picot: ch3, slst in base of first ch

Finishing:

  • Sew sleeve seams
  • Sew shoulder seam
  • Sew sleeves in; ensure sleeve seam faces garment seams
  • Sew side seams
  • Sew in ends
  • Crochet neck trim
  • Attach embellishment of choice

Neck trim: Change to smaller hook. Join yarn in with slst at centre back neck edge.

Row 1: Sc 90 evenly around neck edge. Slst in 1st sc.

Row 2: Picot in 1st sc. *Slst in next sc. Picot.* Rep from * to * around. Slst in base of 1st picot. FO. Sew in ends.
